Bite of Bend

We enjoyed the Bite of Bend today. We watched The Bijou Project's bellydance performance, which was outstanding. Flickr pics: Bijou Project pics and we enjoyed Jenna Lindbo's guitar and singing. Flickr pics: Jenna Lindbo pics. What a voice she has!

Speaking of pics, would it be so hard for festival producers to attend to stage design a little more? It's so hard to take photos of performers when they're shaded by a canopy with bright backlighting. How about putting up a dark backdrop? And having stage lights? And not putting humungurous monitor speakers in front of the performers? And maybe placards or banners for each performer? Marketing, anyone?

Did I mentioned it rained? In June? Fun, fun, fun.

We didn't see Bend Oregon Restaurant anywhere. Where ya at, BOR? There were several restaurants in attendance, including Kebaba, Longboard Louie's, Hurricanes, Taste of Thailand, American Red and Bend Fish Company. The Speedshop Deli had servers with platters wandering around handing out free mini-sandwiches. Smart! I had the tri-tip from Country Catering, which was outstanding as usual. I love tri-tip barbecued right there. Connie had a crab quesadilla from Longboard Louie's.

We never watch the iron chef competitions. Half the fun of iron chef is watching them cook. We didn't see any way to watch the prep process. How about some videocameras and large overhead monitors? Or make the stage at ground level and have bleachers for the audience?

We ran into lots of friends. Shannon's family, Chubby Mommy, Miz Information, Joe Kat, Shireen Amini, and some belly dancer friends. Plus my new boss and his wife. Remember, folks, you never know who's gonna be watching.

Hey Dave,

I didn't see you there and I was looking for the trademark hat of yours. I was there before the rains on Saturday and will be there again today.

I will have my review ready for posting on Sunday night or Monday morning. The Bite was 10X better than last years but it still could use some work. I still think there needs to be more food and I totally agree with you about the Iron Chef competition. LAME.

I was there. In my hat. :)

I looked for you too, but I think we had differing objectives. We grabbed food and spent 90% of our time at the main stage. Local music is a big focus of my blog.

I'm betting you were spending 90% of your time at the food booths. That's the focus of your blog.

I'm looking forward to your review.

I didn't see you either, Dave. But I pretty much waded through for dinner, and then waded back out. I am not much for crowds. :-)

If you were there at dinner time, we'd probably bailed already. When it started raining we decided we'd had enough bites of Bend.

Sorry we missed you. Did you get to see Ben doing a face-plant in Brian's chest? :)
