Shazam!

There's a scene towards the end of the movie Ordinary People where the psychologist, beautifully played by Judd Hirsch, finally gets the troubled kid to reveal and realize what it is that's been troubling him so deeply. I'm not that fond of the movie overall, but I just love that scene. Another movie very much like that is Good Will Hunting in which a psychologist, this time played by Robin Williams, is able to get Matt Damon to reach his epiphany.

It's magic. It's voodoo. Modern shamanism. What a miracle it is when someone can look at a troubled person and turn their life around with a few words.

Nearly my entire life, I've wished some guru could whisper a magic phrase in my ear and poof! I'd be enlightened, or at least unloaded of some of my demons. My internal skeptic prevents me from seeking therapy, so it's like hoping to win the lottery without buying tickets. I guess you, dear audience, will have to suffice. :)

Nothing wrong with California that a little nogoodnik cleansing wouldn't fix. (Ooh, did I say that out loud? Kick out those members of society who prey on others, vandalize property or are filled with hate, and this would be the best place anywhere. Do lawyers prey on others? Just asking.) I love California. When I get tired of the cool, clean air and green surroundings where I live I can travel just a few miles to the beach, to the mountains, to Yosemite, Mt. Shasta, Sacramento River or the hot, dry desert. I love the desert... but just to visit. I'd post some photos of where I live, but I wouldn't wanna make you cry. :) I live between the bay and the Pacific, with streams and lakes, and critters that enjoy my backyard. (Leave my bluejay? No way!) We have deer, hawks, owls, bats, hummingbirds, quail, snowy egrets, geese, seagulls, skunks, possums, raccoons, salamanders, woodpeckers and more, all of which live at or near our house. When we lived in Los Angeles the only critters we saw were crows and road kill. Here, we know the neighbors, and we look out for one another. In a couple years, if the kidlet leaves home, we may move, but it will be a sad day.

I just bookmarked notenoughdrewintheworld . That's what I needed. Another bookmarked blog. I am going to try to use the service you posted below if I survive until the weekend and have time to do something besides read. (Oh, btw, one of the links below gave me a FATAL ERROR!) OUCH.

My husband is a professional magician. If there were magic words, if they existed, I'd know em. But, there aren't, so I don't.
