John Battelle

Last Monday I had the pleasure of hearing John Battelle speak at the Book Passage bookstore about his new book, Search: The Inside Story of How Google and Its Rivals Changed Everything. He's a great writer and a great speaker as well, and very amusing. I recommend his book if you're interested in how Google is reshaping our world. Even better, he has a blog and lives here in Marin County.

Awesome, thanks, Dave. I had no idea about this book (or the author) but now I have a possible gift idea for my dad for Christmas. He's always talking about search technology etc - fascinated with that kind of stuff. So is the book all techy-talk or can even a slightly-geeky girl like me (with just the barest tech essentials in her vocabulary) get a kick out of it, too? The topic definitely sounds interesting.

To be honest, I haven't read (or purchased) the book myself, but the parts he read to us weren't techie, they were plainly and interestingly written.

I don't think you need to be a slightly-geeky grrl to understand it at all, but you'd probably have to be slightly geeky to be interested by it. In other words, I think you'd like it. :)
