Rope

I've been moving all our furniture myself. Well, me and my dolly.

At one time I did field service for a company that sold business computers, and I often had to go out and set up new installations or a booth at a convention. I'd rent a van and throw a bunch of furniture and computers in there, deliver and set everything up, and all without help, so I've had a lot of experience doing this.

I was moving our headboard from the garage into the house, pulling it along on a low four-wheeled cart. Kind of like a roller skate on steroids. The problem was that it didn't want to make the transition from the garage up the small step into the house. So I got a rope and ran it under the front wheels, then by tipping the headboard and tugging the rope, I got the front wheels into the house and the rest soon followed.

"Once a camel gets its nose under the tent, the camel is in the tent."

I was contemplating this tonight. Rope is one of the under-appreciated tools of mankind. Everyone talks about fire and the wheel, but try sailing a boat without rope. Or catching a steer. A cowboy would be lost without his rope. How would he tie up his horse? Or shut the gate? What would spelunkers and mountain climbers do without rope? Or skydivers?

Rope is an incredible invention that's gone entirely without the respect it deserves. Think about it.

Rope is also necessary to walk a dog (mine especially)and keep people from pulling out their lines or keep them in bed (for nurses use only).

You obviously know the ropes, Dave.

Perhaps, however, you've done a little TOO much moving over these past few weeks.

I hope that you're taking some time to relax. I wouldn't want to see you come to the end of your rope.
