President's Turkey Day

As most of you know, we somehow fell out of the practice of having turkey on Thanksgiving. I think it started when Connie's mother served tamales one Thanksgiving, or maybe more recently when Debbie wanted pastilla for Thanksgiving, but whatever the reason, Thanksgiving no longer means turkey in our house.

The rest of the country is still on the turkey standard. Markets often give away a free turkey with your Thanksgiving groceries, and Connie can't pass up a bargain. BOGO's and free turkeys make her day.

When I was a kid we celebrated Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday. Now, instead, we in the United States celebrate President's Day. It's a two-fer. We've been cheated out of a holiday. It's like a BOGO, but it's more like take one, lose one.

We've had a frozen turkey in our freezer since Thanksgiving. We weren't going to have turkey for Thanksgiving, but it was free, so we gave it a home.

Yesterday we honored George Washington and Abraham Lincoln by celebrating President's Day. And we honored our current "president" by having turkey.

Too bad the store wasn't giving away the back end of horses.

Yeah, uh, I don't think we'd have put that in the freezer. Some pork, maybe... :)
