Murphy Messed Up

Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time. - Murphy's Law

We moved here over a year and a half ago. It was New Year's Eve, 2005. We had no refrigerator, but we ordered one the next day.

For about a week or two now, the ice dispenser in our new refrigerator hasn't. A couple days ago, it stopped dispensing water, as well. You'd push the cup in, and the refrigerator lights would dim, and no water would come out. Yesterday we realized that the refrigerator wasn't keeping things cold anymore, either. So we called the repair guys.

Today they showed up, and had the right part with them, and within a half hour the thing was working again. whew! This isn't winter, and if we put any food in the garage it would probably cook.

We were relieved to have our icebox back, but then began to dread what this repair would cost us. It waited past the one-year warranty to fail, of course. The guy made a call, read off our serial number, and said, "Oh it is? Good."

Turns out this particular model of the electronic control board had a history of premature failure, and the warranty period had been extended through August. Woot! Murphy must have been asleep at the wheel.

Wow, you lucked out. I assume you're not dealing with Sears.

LOL No, it wasn't Sears. They would have been late, would have had to order a part which wouldn't have come for two weeks, charged me an arm and a leg for parts and labor, and would have cut a wire or something so they'd get to make another service call.

And they would have regretted it. I don't usually put up with bad service. ;)

We moved up here on New Years Eve 2005 too! That will be the last time I ever drive a moving truck in the winter on 97! White out all the way from Klammath!

XXLDave: Amazing. That you survived, that is. I tried to follow a truck the whole way. And, silly me, I must have made a dozen trips or more that winter, in cargo vans and moving trucks, getting the rest of our stuff here from there, whether it was snowing or not. Funny coincidence we moved the same day, Dave. :)
