Rabbits

Rabbits.

Went to the Novato Forest Faire again yesterday. I wonder how long I could live at the faire before I got tired of it. Or if I would. Love the food, love the crafts, love the music and costumery. (Is that a word?) Women who wouldn't normally be attractive to me look great at the faire. Too bad corsets went out of style.

Might go to a guitar show today.

Tomorrow is the first day of my new job. The workspace has exposed red brick, a low ceiling and round cement columns. Very hip. I'll be working in a hip parking garage. I moved to Northern California from the Los Angeles area about fifteen years ago, and I still don't know San Francisco. I know two main routes through the City. I go down 19th to get to the airport and parts south, or I take Lombard to Van Ness to get to the wharf or places off of Van Ness. From Marin County, the City looks like a big slab of concrete, which is what I moved to Marin to get away from.

I'm looking forward to it, though. I love meeting new people, I love acquiring new skills, and I love adventure. I've explored all of Marin County and most of the Sonoma, Napa and Solano counties. It'll be nice having new territory to conquer.

So if you see a dark-haired guy in dark amber sunglasses popping a GPS into his Pocket PC with a lost look on his face, that'll be me. Not to worry though, I love being lost. Just give me a hug and let me meander around until I find my way. I always do.

Kinda like this post. Didn't end up where you thought it would, did it?

Did you know Jim Carrey was in that old Clint Eastwood movie, The Dead Pool? It's playing on the tube as I write this, and there he is. Quel surprise. Guess where it's set? That's right, SF. Must be an omen.

I'm expecting two more Netflix disks to arrive. The one I've got in-house is Center of the World, which I selected for the sole reason that it has Deadwood's Molly Parker in it. I've reached that unenviable position where I've already rented every movie I can think of that I'd really like to see, and now I add movies to the list at whim. Click the YMDb and Listology links in the sidebar and you'll see what kind of movies I have, and what my favorites are.

That's all for now. Keep in touch.

Found my way here through "beFrank" I think. I'm a very new blogger - only three days old - but I noticed in your profile you like magic.

When my husband and I met about 10 years ago, I was performing stand-up comedy and he was a professional magician at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. If you're interested, next time your down this way drop me a line, let me know and I'll get you pass. Only drawback, you MUST wear a jacket and tie. They're weird about it. Good luck with your new job. My husband has been an unemployed computer security software sales person for almost two years now.

Welcome to blogging!

beFrank's is a great blog.

I wish I had the nerve to be a standup comic. I love writing comedy, but performing in public is nerve-wracking. I took Judy Carter's comedy workshop in Big Bear one year and had a blast.

I've been to the Castle several times, but I can never go too much. I've talked to "Irma" the piano player, and sat on the leftmost bar stool, and chatted with Dai Vernon. I used to hang out at Joe Berg's magic store on Hollywood Bl. Long time ago.

I'm sure your husband's already doing this, but when I was out of work I used to check craigslist.com every day. It also helps to find stuff to do every day to keep your spirits up. I've been writing a mystery novel in my time off. I wish him the best of luck.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be sure to check out your blog.

P.S. I've read a lot of books on comedy, and my favorite book on the structure of comedy is The Comic Toolbox by John Vorhaus. A lot of it applies to straight storytelling as well.

I finished a novel last year during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where you finish a novel during the month of November. Have you heard about it? Now, don't get me wrong - it's not a good novel. Doesn't even have to be a readable novel I guess. Just 50,000 words in one month. I didn't do so bad. My brutally honest brother is a part-time screen writer (who isn't, right? - he is an executive at Guitar Center by day) read it and said it was pretty good. Needs WORK. A lot of work. But, someday.

Thanks for coming by.

I started doing stand-up by taking writing classes at UCLA. Then went to the Groundlings theater and stayed for a year - but, I'm too old. I didn't start this second (third? fourth?) career until I was in my 40's. At first I liked the performing but hated the writing. Then I loved the writing - hated the performing. I took classes with Judy, Shelly Bonus (one of Richard Pryor's ex-'s) and Bob Basso. All very good.

Stay in touch and seriously that invitation is open should you ever want to go. Next time he performs I'll let you know and put you on the guest list. That way you don't have to pay a cover or buy dinner - you don't HAVE to do anything. With the passes I think you're still required to pay a cover and forced to eat there.

Craigslist rocks, huh? Actually I'm not sure I've ever mentioned that to him. I'll make sure to tell him today. Funny how sometimes we don't know what we know. Thanks.
