Google Maps Wallpaper

Hopefully those of you in the domain of Google Maps have tried their service and marveled at the satellite images. I know I have. What's frustrating is that you can't just right-click and save the image. I've used the Windows legacy-named PrtSc button to copy an image of my desktop to the clipboard, but that's a pain and you're still limited to the size of map displayed. But no longer.

Google Maps Wallpaper will take a Google Maps query or "Link to this page" URL and read the map tiles to build a single image at various sizes for you, that you can save as wallpaper. Neat! (via In4mador)

UPDATE (6/8/05): Sadly, Google Maps requested that the website remove their wallpaper application, as it violated the Google Maps terms of service. Considering that Google Maps is a free service, I have no problem with them restricting how their data is used.

I printed a nice picture of my neighborhood and I'm going to frame it. It's too bad that the satellite picture wasn't taken during that brief period of time when the hillsides are green. It looks like my house is surrounded by dry brush and wasteland. I guess it looks that way because it is. I'm trying to remember, is brush fire one word or two?

Dave, you have the same earthquake risk, but I bet in Marin County you don't get many fires. Unless, of course, you count fish tank fires. :)
