Experience It on the Big Screen

A movie ad (on TV) just ended with this tagline: Experience it on the big screen. That must be the motion picture industry's big answer to declining theater attendance. "Experience it on the big screen." That's sure to make a big difference at the box office.

But they leave out what the experience is... Experience the noisy kids a few seats away. Experience the kid behind you kicking your seat. Experience ticket prices that cost more than your dinner. Experience concession prices 10 times what you'd pay at the 7-Eleven. Experience the commercials before the movie. Experience the anti-piracy clip accusing you of being a criminal. That's the theater experience they didn't mention.

What's my movie experience these days? The thrill when the envelope shows up in the mailbox, at no cost beyond my monthly subscription fee. No commute to the theater. No traffic. No parking problems. The freedom to watch it whenever I want. As often as I want. To pause it. To sit in my own home, in whatever I want to wear, with refreshments that won't break the bank. With all the money I save, maybe I'll buy a big screen TV.

In addition to your list, I would add people who talk on their cell phones during the movie, people who narrate the movie, sticky floors, stained seats and having to sit in an upright position. I prefer to sprawl.

I also want to get a big screen TV, but I can't decide where to put it. It really should go in my bedroom because that's where I normally watch TV, but on the occasions when company watches TV with me, I prefer that everyone stay downstairs. People might get the wrong idea if I invite them to lie in bed with me to watch the good TV. :)

and I want to add, the,'no smoking' situation, which of course is right, non smokers would hate to sit in a smoke filled atmosphere and quite rightly so but for me it was the end of the 'movie experience'.
