The Razor Saver
The TreeHugger web magazine has an article about a new product called the Razor Saver. What a great idea!
Everyone probably knows by now the paradigm of the cheap shaver: Give away the shavers and make money on the blades. That strategy has been used over and over in a variety of fields.
Got a video game that's too expensive to sell? Sell it at a loss and make it up with sales of games! Sell your printer cheap and make it up with ink cartridges.
Of course, some manufacturers have discovered that there's a fly in this ointment. Savvy customers soon learn to find their refills elsewhere.
Another paradigm is to simply make your product wear out quickly so you can sell replacements.
I hate these paradigms. What a waste of energy and landfills! For most products, I'd rather spend more up front, and not have to keep buying refills or replacements.
I'd love to see more products like the Razor Saver that allow you to extend the life of the products you've purchased.

Somehow, I think that the Prophylactic Saver might be a bad idea.
Come again?
Oh, dear. Did I say that out loud? I'm going to run and hide now.
