Bye Bye Bernie's
Since moving to Central Oregon in 2005 we've been sampling many restaurants. High on my list has been BBQ places. We've hit pretty much every BBQ joint around. Our favorite so far is Baldy's BBQ. I love their ribs and pulled pork, and Connie goes gaga for the catfish. We love their bread pudding, too.
Tonight, on our way to The Grove for dinner, bellydance and Taarka, we passed Bernie's BBQ. A sign said they were closed, and a banner read, "Pepe's opening soon." The barbecue at Bernie's was good, but we liked Baldy's much better.
I hope Pepe's is good, whatever it is.

Yeah I heard that Bernie's was closed during my last trip to Baldy's. We were chatting with our waitress and she let us know.
I thought Bernie's had some great beef brisket but other than that, it wasn't that great.

That's another thing I like about Baldy's is that the waitresses are friendly.
One of these days we want to try Zucca, which replaced the wonderful Mercury Diner, and we want to try that new Mexican/Peruvian place next to Yoko's that replaced Mangia Pasta. So many restaurants, so little time! :)

There is no love lost between me and Bernie. I am not sad to see that one go as I thought their food was horrible and the service was even worse! But that's just me.
Funny coincidence BOR - we heard about Bernie's while waiting for a table at Baldy's. Another group was complaining about the wait and called over to see about Bernie's and got a recording that they had closed.
Dave, Hola is GREAT! I have been meaning to write up something on my blog. Try the banana dessert, prepared tableside (can you say "flambe"?).
Good to hear, we'll have to check Hola.
I guess I should have said "two nights ago", since I posted after midnight. Last night (Thursday) was COWPU (thanks again, Jen!), and Wednesday night was dinner, bellydance and Taarka, all at The Grove. Love the Grove. :)
