I'm a Failure

I'm a terrible hippie. I grew up during the 60's. I didn't become a teenager until the 70's, but I did live through the 60's, through the time of protests and free love and rebellion against the establishment. But I never joined a sit-in. Never marched in the streets.

Here I am, some forty years later, and I've still never marched in the streets, joined a sit-in or protested in public. But now, more than ever, I feel I should.

I hate the way our civil rights are being eroded. I hate how corporations take advantage of us. I hate the corruption of the political system. I hate when foreign policy is dictated by greed and politics instead of statesmanship. I protest!

I'm starting to think that if I die without having been jailed at least once for protesting against things un-American, I will have left something un-done. If nothing else, I want to set an example for our daughter.

But I probably won't. And I protest that too.

OK, if you don't get around to the protesting, you could help your daughter understand that in this country, you at least CAN protest and speak out against the government.

I mean, it's better than nothing.

(PS... while you're at it, could you teach her to thank those 'baby killers' who make it possible?)

I'm not sure what you mean about that baby killer comment, but I'm not sure I want to know. Especially since you posted anonymously.
