A Great Comic has Passed Away
The great comic George Carlin has passed away at 71 from heart failure. My condolences to all his friends and family.
I can remember a schoolteacher in 2nd or 3rd grade (mid-60's) playing some George Carlin sketches for the class. Especially Heavy Mysteries, in which Carlin asks if God is so powerful, can he make a rock so heavy that he can't lift it? And in which Carlin poses unlikely situations and asks, "Would that then be a sin, Father?"
Carlin had a keen wit and a scathing sense of humor which he unleashed on government and idiots of all stripes.
In the mid-90's I got into radio-controled helicopters, and made several trips to a hobby shop in Santa Monica, California, which was owned by a relative of George Carlin. His son-in-law? I forget exactly. But I clearly remember being pleasantly shocked when George Carlin walked in and chatted with us. He was friendly, and funny, and I'll miss him.

I saw Carlin at the Circle Star Theater in San Leandro in 1973 when he was recording the Occupation Fool album. Good show. He will be missed.
