It's Not For The Weak

My wife went for her annual checkup a few days ago, and the doctor, Michelle, (well, nurse practitioner, actually), asked how Connie was doing. Connie described some minor complaints that she'd been experiencing, things we'd never had to worry about as teenagers.

Connie says, "This aging thing is a pain."

To which Michelle replies, "Yes. It's not for the weak."

Welcome to Spring, everyone. :)

Being a kid trapped in the body of a 48 year old woman who is facing the prospect of bilateral hip replacements, I can feel Connie's pain. This brings to mind two old sayings:
"Youth is wasted on the young" and
"The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak"

There's an urban legend that early computer scientists invented a program to translate between English and Russian and gave it the phrase "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" and requested a Russian translation. They then translated the Russian back into English and what came out was "The vodka is good but the meat is rotten."

Sorry to hear about your hip problems. Internally, I'm still pretty much the same person I was at 19, but this bag of skin I'm in is showing signs of wear.

That's nothing. You should see my white hair, well, white roots. Thank goodness for Lady Clairol.
