Looking for Mr. Toolbar

There seems to be a new search engine every 30 seconds, but two recent arrivals have caught my attention. The first is Exalead, which they say searches over a billion pages. Like Vivisimo, it's a clustering search engine, organizing the hits into sets of commonality, plus it also offers thumbnails of each hit where available. (Try this.) I'll be keeping an eye on it, although I still prefer the speed and minimalism of Google.

The other new engine is Answers.com, which tries to return an authoritative answer to your query, rather than a simple list of hits. (Try this.) I added their toolbar to my browser, and I now use Answers when I'm looking for something I think it can handle, while I still use Google for most queries where I'm looking for a list of hits.

In this brave new world, it's adapt or learn to sell french fries.

I like Answers, just gives you another option. I'm a fan of Dogpile, i find it comes up with near exactly what i am looking for 98% of the time.

Crepes and cream puffs? Why do you tempt me so? :)

I loved your line "adapt or learn to sell french fries." At work, a new hospital is being built in the parking lot and it is going to be paperless. It will open in 2007 and a lot of nurses are planning on taking early retirement right before it opens because they are terrified of everything being computerized. I'm afraid too, but I'm too young to retire and too old to sell french fries, so I will have to adapt. My current coping mechanism is denial. I don't think that they can really run the hospital without truckloads of paper. I'll let you know how I'm doing when reality sets in. :)

Too old to sell french fries, Melissa? Have you seen fast food french fry folks recently? You're too young to sell french fries in some places! I'm sure you'll do great when nursing gets more computerized, and with the other nurses retiring, you'll be made manager! :)

I wish I could find a search engine that found what I wanted 98% of the time, Michelle. So far, none of them have found me a pile of money. When Moneypile works where Dogpile doesn't, I'll be a happy man! :)

If you find Moneypile, please don't forget to share it here, under your blog tag of Links. :)
