Is It Cheating?
- Many, many, years ago, a programmer came to the company I worked for at the time to see if they would publish his poker game. One of the features of his poker game, he said, was that it had "intuition".
"How does that work?" we wanted to know.
"Every now and then, the computer peeks at the player's cards and uses that knowledge when deciding how to play," he said.
We didn't publish his game. What would you do? Is it cheating, or a way for a computer to compensate for its inability to know human behavior? - Another company that publishes games has a trial period, as many do. Their games are free during the trial period. As an incentive to get you to buy the game, they make sure their games are more interesting or easier to win during the trial period. Like beginners rules for board games. Cheating, or good marketing?
- Here's another question: Many women wear makeup to improve their appearance. Especially on dates. Is that cheating... or good marketing?

Regarding women wearing makeup, that is definitely marketing, not cheating. (Do you really want to see me without my makeup?) It's no different than a man shaving, wearing cologne, wearing shoulder pads in his suit jacket or being unusually nice. It's just a way of showing yourself at your best. That's why people shouldn't rush into marriage. It takes time for people to drop the facade and to see what's underneath.
For a computer to peek at your cards is cheating, unless you can also peek at the computer's cards. :)
1. Cheating. When playing poker, no one should look at anyone's cards to figure out what to do next.
2. I would call this bait and switch.
3. Expected, really, is what I would call it. This is like shaving your legs when your a female.. expected, right? I suppose you could call it "marketing", but that takes all the glamour out of it. :)
when "you're" a female, btw. Proofread, Lisa, proofread!
So do casino have intuitive machines?
If a new Burger King opens and for the first week they have a fancy chef cook is that marketing or cheating? It's certainly going to be a disappointment after that...
I'm not a big makeup fan. If good "marketing" is used to entice me it just goes downhill from there. No makeup at first and it always gets "better(?)". At least that way I don't have a heart attack some morning in the future...
Although I guess my thought process doesn't work if you apply it to clothes. Or it works the opposite way...
Another question ~ Many men actually have the ability to hear whilst on a date. When they marry, all of a sudden that hearing is lost. Cheating or not!
LMAO at Michelle's comment!
