Honey, We're Home!
After two trips to Central Oregon in a rented Ford Econoline cargo van with loads of boxes and furniture, it was time to take the plunge. Today I loaded up our little station wagon with the wife, both cats, and a shipload of "essentials" and drove up to our new house to make it our new home.
First, we had to get through and around the flooding in the Bay Area. Then drive for hours and hours, then drive on highway with snow and ice without putting on the chains that we bought yesterday. I never planned to put them on, but I knew if I didn't buy them then I'd need them. (I'm just contrary that way.)
I still need to make trips back to Marin to pick up the rest of our furniture and possessions, but they'll be trips from Oregon to Marin, not the other way around.
Pictures to come. (Also to come is the patch to make the comment photos work again. That pesky Blogger started adding rel="no follow" to the links.)
Thank you for all your well wishes. Happy holidays and happy new year, one and all!

Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for surprising us with your call last night!
We're soooooooooooooo happy that you made it there safely...
and even happier that you're soooooooooooooo happy with your new digs!
Looking forward to the pictures!
Congrats on being in your new home. How on earth did you move the furniture by yourself? Even with Connie's help, that must have been an ordeal.
Please be careful on the icy roads. Are you going to get snow tires put on your cars? (Now I'm sounding like my mother.)
Happy New Years to you and your family. Please hurry with the picures. :)
Our car is at the end of its lease. It's been doing surprisingly well on the local roads, and our snow-covered driveway, but it goes back in a few days, and then we get a 4WD car with snow tires. :)
Connie didn't help with the furniture, it was all me. I used to move a lot of furniture when I was installing computer systems, and all I need is a good dolly.
Candace, you'll be happy to know that we love the set of LED night-lights you gave us. I've set them all to blue, although I also liked the green setting. They let me walk around the house at night without turning on any lights unnecessarily.
Today we went to Lowes and ordered a new refrigerator, a stackable washer/dryer, a small shed for the snow-blower, and picked up a lot of odds and ends, including a Dyson vaccuum cleaner. I haven't tried using it yet, I need to get my PhD first. :)
Congratulations on your escape from the Bay Area!
I have a Dyson and it's so easy to use that even I could figure it out. It's not true that it doesn't lose suction, though. I spend a lot of time on the floor dismantling it and then putting it back together to clear clogs. Wet dog fur is a formidable enemy to vacuum cleaners.
Drive safely, stay warm :o)
Wow! I knew you were moving but I missed the "Oregon" part! What part of Oregon? Job change? Can't wait to see the photos!
Central Oregon, Terri. Job's the same, but the lifestyle's a little nicer. After our daughter moved out, we no longer needed a 5-bedroom home.
How's your neck? ;)
House is spectacular. I remember seeing the photos but for some reason I missed the Central Oregon part. Looks like a wonderful retreat. Reminds me of Bend which is a place I loved. Can't wait to see more photos and we did the "move ourselves" thing about 6 months ago. Just about killed us! Especially when at the last moment they would not give us a one-way truck and Steven had to pack the truck, drive three hours, unpack the truck, drive it back the three hours, drop off the truck and again drive back three hours, all within a 24 hour period.
Sounds like a wonderful start to a new year...a new beginning...Re: neck: I have a new chiropractor but still on way too much medication. I have good days and bad...today is a very good one. Thx's for asking!
