Chestnuts Roasting in a Microwave...

First, let me say that roasted chestnuts are actually really yummy. I made them for the first time last year and kicked myself for having waited so long to try one. I guess the song was so irksome it kept me away. (I also avoid those frickin' Salvation Army bell-ringers.)

Anyway, this year I tried microwaving a chestnut. 20-30 seconds of nuking a chestnut (with a slit cut in the shell and wrapped in a paper towell) and it gets nice and hot. Nuke it too long and it pops the shell apart. Be careful peeling off the shell and husk, it's hot! mmmmm... chestnuts! Try not to hum the song.

I'll try that. I've never had a roasted chesnut, but I did once have them pureed in a sauce topped with a scoop of ice cream, a poached pear and dribbled in caramel sauce. That worked too.

So I suppose this is the wrong time to recount that old tale of Bobby Fisher and a couple of groupies talking about their exploits in the lobby of a hotel?

Yeah, thought so. No, really, I can see myself out...

Sounds yummy (both just roasted, and over the poached pear), I think I'll have to make a United run...
