Always Got Your Back

When I was at Mindscape (for over 7 years!), I worked for a guy named Dave "Greno". I learned a lot from him. He never just wrote an email, he always added a touch of "Greno" to it, making it amusing. I read a lot of email every day, and I miss the humor that Greno injected into his. It's refreshing to read an email that's entertaining even when it's mundane. I've tried to emulate this, and I think there's a lot of Greno in my blog posts. It's also refreshing to work for someone who respects the employees, and you always got that sense from Greno.

One of the things I enjoy about my current employment is that the CEO reminds me of Greno. He's easygoing, speaks with humor, and respects his people. He's not above getting down under someone's desk to help hook up their computer. I love that. (Disclaimer: As far as I know, nobody from work reads this blog.)

Today, I replied to an email and forgot to add a third person to the two already in the address list. of course, I noticed that an instant after clicking Send. Sometimes I think there needs to be a 7-second-delay during which you can easily and reliably Unsend an email that you just sent. (Sometimes you actually can cancel an email, but it's difficult and unreliable.)

Anyhow, I quickly found the email in my sent folder and forwarded it to the third person. Moments after doing that, I received an email showing that the CEO had also noticed my oversight, for he had also forwarded my email to the third person. I thanked him, and he replied, "Always got your back."

Isn't that a great thing to hear?

Amen! Yes!

Especially in this day and age where there is often more concern about profit margin than there is about employee morale.

Sadly, words of praise and encouragement were few and far between in most of my past work environments.

That is a great thing to hear. I wish that I could relate to that experience. At work, I'm always watching my back.
