Today was Hot!

90 degrees here today. (But it was a dry heat.) Today has been our hottest since moving here in snowstorms six months ago. Fortunately, the house has double-paned windows and good insulation, so it stayed fairly cool inside. We open the windows at night to cool the house for the next day.

There's only one way in and out of the neighborhood we live in. If there was a fire and that exit was blocked, it could be bad. There are, however, a couple more ways out, but they're gated and locked. Theoretically, someone would unlock the emergency exits if there was a fire or other emergency. I don't like that arrangement, so I keep a key to those gates in the car. A very large key. Red, with black handles. You might know it as a pair of bolt cutters. I like to be prepeared.

This morning we went for a drive to check out the fire exits. It's one thing to know where something is, but in an emergency it helps to have actually seen where it is so you can find it without hesitation. After verifying where the bug-out gates are, we checked out a garage sale we had passed. They had some big lava rocks for sale, and I bought a half dozen of them and took them home. A nice unexpected find.

We headed into Bend to have lunch at the Mongolian BBQ that we've grown to love. Across the street was another garage sale. We stopped to see what they had, and it turned out to be an unusual garage sale.

They had a five-piece band! And free hot dogs. It's not every day you go to a garage sale and find live music and free food. I purchased a carved wooden bird. We passed on the dogs, though. Mongolian BBQ awaited us.

After a spendid lunch, I opened my fortune cookie and it advised me to take advantage of serendipity. Too late!

I love your emergency key. Have you tested it to make sure that it will cut through the locks? Maybe the locks don't really need to be there. ;)
