GOAAAALLLLL!
Earlier this year, I mentioned that we'd been starting to train Steller's Jays in our backyard. We have several that visit, but one in particular is so bold we've dubbed him Braveheart.
I've been luring him closer and closer to my hand. In order to desensitize him to eating from human hands, I started putting peanuts on a rubber hand I use at Halloween. He ate from it.
Today, finally, he took peanuts from my own hand. Woot!

Do the birds there need to go to a warmer climate in the winter or will you be hand feeding Braveheart year round? Work on getting a picture for us.
OK Dave, where is the photograph of this momentous occasion??
And for Melissa... jays are not migratory, but they will wander widely over large areas within a geographic range.
Sadly, the bird didn't tell me in advance that he'd finally go the distance, and I didn't have a camera trained on him. I was going to try again today, but the temp never got above 40 and I was busy with work. I'll try again soon.
Our hummingbirds have already flown the coop in search of warmer climes, but we should have jays and ravens throughout the winter.
