Shaquille Who?

I was reading today about Roger Kornberg winning the Nobel prize for chemistry, and John Mather and George Smoot winning the prize for physics. Woot! Scientists in the news!

Why is it that sports stars make millions of dollars and yet teachers and scientists make so little? How have sports "heroes" improved the world? What have they done that makes a difference in our lives? Scientists, on the other hand, find cures and remedies for disease, make technological advances, find ways to reduce pollution. They discover the past and determine the future, they learn the inner workings of the universe and contribute to the world's set of knowledge.

Maybe someday I'll invent something groundbreaking. I'd like to.
