Dum teka Dum

I woke up this morning with a drum rhythm going through my head. The room was dark, Connie was asleep and I didn't want to wake up yet. I couldn't fall back asleep. And I had this rhythm going through my head. I figured out the doumbek names for it:

Dum Tek-ka Dum ka-Dum ka-Dum Tek-ka Tek-ka ...

Players of the doumbek (a goblet-shaped hand drum) use words to describe the basic drum hits: Dum (pronounced "doom") is the bass tone produced by hitting the center of the drum head, and Tek represents the higher tone produced by hitting the rim of the drum. ka is like tek, but played with the non-dominant hand.

Shortly after figuring out how to play the rhythm in my head on a doumbek, I realized that I knew the source of the rhythm. It's the drum beat to Bawitdaba, a rock rap song by Kid Rock:

Bawitdaba da bang a dang diggy diggy
diggy said the boogy said up jump the boogy

Now I feel dirty.
