How's the Girl?

My grandmother, who could never remember Connie's name, would always ask me, "How's the girl?" It made us chuckle. Wish you were still here, Grandma.

The other night I was chatting with our daughter, and before ending the call I told her, "Say 'Hi' to Richard." We hung up, I replayed that last thing in memory, and I quickly called her back. "Matthew! I mean Matthew!" Richard was the old boyfriend. Oh, boy.

Maybe I should just say, "How's the boy?"
