Bad Quechup

Twice today I've gotten emails inviting me to join Quechup, then very apologetic emails from friends who said it got my address from their contact list and spammed their friends. Stay away from Quechup. Quechup sucks.

I'd be one of those friends, and I can attest to how stupid it makes me feel.

However, these folks are ruining a good thing. Social networking sites that abide by a few simple rules - like "do no evil", for instance - I think are a powerful thing.

There are a few other sites I use that integrate address books, but they are up front when they are "about to send an email to people who don't already belong". Linked In, Plaxo, etc, are all relatively up front. I have to admit that they are becoming LESS up front and are providing some apps that you can install on your local machine that you have to wonder - "what else are they doing?"

Anyway, I say bad Quechup, as you say Dave. I may have been stupid, but they were less than up front with the evil they were going to perpetrate using my email address book.

You're not stupid. How could you know what they were up to? That's why I wrote this post, so fewer people would be duped by them. Knowledge is power. :)

Good to hear from you again.
