It's Brisk, Baby!
Woke up this morning and the thermometer on the back door read 14 below. Given that there's probably a little heat leakage through the double-paned glass, it was probably 15 below or colder. But I still got the newspaper dressed in just a robe and slippers. It's only about a hundred feet from the front door to the newspaper box at the street. The fish pond is doing fine. (For those of you in metric land, our -15 degrees Fahrenheit is about -26 degrees Celsius.)
We have a heat pump that, in the summer, cools the house by pumping the heat outside, and in the winter it heats by collecting heat from the outside and pumping it inside. It works even in freezing weather, but it's so cold right now that it can't scavenge enough heat and has to engage the electric furnace in the garage to keep the house warm. We took steps to prevent the pipes from freezing by opening the cabinet under the sink so the heat can get at the pipes, we set all the faucets to a very slow drip, and we left the toilet seats up. The cat thinks they're punch bowls.

That's purdy cold. I'm not sure I could deal with the dripping fawcets, though. That is a form of torture for me.
Makes our 20 above seem quite balmy.
I don't know why, but our faucets drip quietly, else it would bother me too. :)
LOL Alan, that's the term we use to humorous effect. "Hey, Connie, we made it up to 20 degrees!" and Connie says, "Oooh, balmy!"
