Stereognosis

For a long time I resisted MySpace. Never went there. But it turns out that a lot of the local bands I like to listen to use MySpace to list their performances, so I started my own page to make it easy to keep up with my bands, and I grew to like it. There's something distasteful to me about growing to like something, as if it's somehow hypocritical, but it's a fact of life, so I deal.

One of the things I like doing now is to look at my friend's pages and see who their friends are. I like to listen to the bands they like to see if I like them too. Recently I introduced myself to a guy named Steve-o because so many of my friends liked him. He's a cool guy, and now I'm glad I did.

In a similar fashion, I kept finding a Slovakian belly dancer named Dasha as a friend of people I knew, so I added her. Dasha has a lot of bands as friends, and I like a lot of those bands. Today I found one on her list named Stereognosis, and I loved their music. The funny thing is that Stereognosis, who I found on a Slovakian's MySpace page, is in Portland, Oregon, half a world away from her, but close to me. It's really a small world.
