Random Bits

I chatted with my friend Charles the other night. I met him when I was about eight, at summer camp in Big Bear (Southern California). He goes by a different name now than he did then. He's also living in the land down under.

Charles says the last eight years it's been hard to be an American abroad, because everyone ridicules him. The night Obama was elected, he could hear many Aussies cheering outside his windows. I guess he won't be ridiculed much longer. I'm hopin'.

We talked a lot about what life is like down there. It's summer there now. In the mornings, the kookaburras make an incredible racket, then in the evening the sulphur-crested cockatoos raise a racket. In addition to these two backyard birds, he also gets lorikeets. Wish we had kookaburras here!

Our daughter is moving to Hawaii in a couple months (*sigh*). She'll be going to school there. We're sad to have her moving so far away, but on the other hand it means we get to visit Hawaii for the first time. And we'll have a place to stay!

Charles suggested that as long as we were in Hawaii, we should continue on afterwards to Australia. He has a guest room. It's been a while since we've needed our passports. It'll be nice to dust them off. Maybe all this travel will qualify me to be vice president. Heh.

In other news, if you call this news, I was shopping with Connie today, and I noticed blouses with the Sag Harbor brand. It occurred to me that if I were a woman, I wouldn't want to wear a blouse from Sag Harbor.

What is Debbie studying?

At least Sag Harbor doesn't make foundation garments. :)

Happy birthday, Connie. Post a photo of the cake so that we can all share, even if only in spirit. :)
