Data Plans?

I'd really like to have Internet access from my laptop when I'm away from home and WiFi. I'm also ready to change my cellphone provider. Anyone have advice on using cellphones as tethered modems? Or cell modems in a laptop? Or who has good prices on data plans, and who has the fastest connections? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Rather than cell tethering, I'd go for Verizon EV-DO (which I have). If you have Verizon cell service, then the plan is $60 a month (and you should be able to get them to throw in the USB network adapter card for free).

Get on either Verizon or Sprint locally (probably Sprint out where you live as I think it's got a better signal) and get a Windows mobile phone with WiFi and then get this:

That's my plan, at least, as I'm looking to do the same thing, and Sprint users have reported good luck with that software.

Wow, that looks really interesting. When I'm home or at work I have wifi, but I'd like to be online even when I'm not near a wifi spot. Turning the phone into an access point means I wouldn't even have to cable it.

Does Sprint have data speeds as fast as Verizon? How do the data plan prices compare?

Which smartphones are you looking at?
