Outsourced Offshore Software Sweatshop

Seems three pinheads got the bright idea to sail a ship just offshore in international waters and run a programming operation from it with non-U.S. citizens. As if the software industry wasn't having enough trouble already. Somebody do something! Please?

I don't see what the problem is, I mean they'll get to golf and all.

;)

(Btw, shouldn't there be a special, more accurate derogatory term for programmers other than just 'pinheads'? That seems so, like, not hip and geeky enough. ;P)

There are derogatory terms for programmers, but my oath with the Brotherhood of Software Developers prevents me from disclosing them. The pinheads to which I refer, however, are the entrepreneurs who established this travesty. I can only hope that they are not programmers themselves.

P.S. It's a tad unnerving here on the "Post a Comment" page to see your lone, lovely eye staring at me as I type. :)

It sometimes seems like we are slowly progressing towards becoming a Third World country. More and more jobs are being exported to places where people will work for little more than rice. Taking away jobs that pay American wages may benefit business in the short run, but it hurts this country as a whole. If something is not done, much of the middle class will disappear and we will become a country with a few rich people and a huge peasant class. If people would boycott companies that use offshore labor, the problem would disappear. That will not happen, though. People like cheap prices, regardless of the eventual cost. Perhaps our "congresscritters" need to pass some tariffs to protect our jobs from foreign competition. Otherwise, we may all end up living in grass shacks and eating rice.

Dave, as a last resort, and I do mean last resort, you could become a nurse. Nursing can't be done offshore and it's a rare day that I don't get a letter or postcard begging me to come work some place. Nursing is science based and you get to meet lots of new people, all of which you like. And just think, you could take care of incontinent movie stars too.

But I'm not sure Dave would have the shoes for it, Melissa. ;)

(Sorry about the eye, Dave! I get that all the time, only not so often with the 'lovely' thrown in, thanks.)

It's not the shoes that concern me, it's what I'd get on my shoes!

As long as "it"is only on your shoes and not your face, you would do fine. ;)

I forgot to mention the physical workout you get with nursing. It's like going to the gym. And, they actually pay me to do this. You should see how strong I am. :)

LOL, I must know, how did you get the comments thing to read "A whopping X comments" for this post?
Is that a tweakable feature of the Blogger code itself or one of your nifty tricks? I like it.

Melissa, my aunt is a labor/delivery nurse and is very strong from her nursing career as well. Of course the double-entendre comment she loves to say, (as a mother, herself, and a nurse) is that "delivering babies is a workout!"

That would be one of my "nifty tricks". It's done in the Blogger template. I guess I'll do a web page on Blogger hacks. I'll let you know when it's up.

A web page on Blogger hacks would be fabulous, Dave, thanks. :)

A friend told me that this story was a gag. Was I really fooled? I'm feeling pretty stupid right now.

I haven't seen anything on the net to suggest that it's a hoax. There's even an article about SeaCode on the Forbes Magazine website. Nothing about it on Snopes.com, where I always go to check out hoaxes.

What's your friend's source? :)

My friend is an arrogant first date for whom there will be no second date. Do I sound bitter? I hate dating.
