Books Rule
Last year, Connie came home from the mall with a new book, and had me read the first line of the first paragraph.
The cop climbed out of his car exactly four minutes before he got shot.
That was the first line of Persuader, by Lee Child. Some books just grab you the very first page, and all of his do that.
Another author who writes books I can't put down is Barry Eisler, who writes about an American assassin living in Japan. I've been to Japan, I'm fascinated by their culture, and I enjoy reading books and watching movies set there. Shogun. The Last Samurai. Lone Wolf and Cub.
Barry Eisler is going to be appearing Friday at the Book Passage bookstore, one of the country's best bookstores, especially for writers. I'm going to do my best to attend. I love hearing authors speak, and getting a chance to ask them about their writing process.
One day I read that mystery author John Sandford was going to be there, who we both enjoy reading, so Connie and I drove there to hear him. When we got there we discovered that he wasn't there alone. Also speaking was Robert Crais, yet another of our favorite mystery authors. That's just the kind of place Book Passage is. They attract some of the best authors, and they have a great selection of books on writing, and they hold a mystery writer's convention every year.
After hearing an author speak I always want to go home and write. I need to make better progress on my book, so hopefully this will help. Getting an autographed book isn't too shabby, either.

Well, it's about time that you got back to work on the novel. For how long has it been 73.33% completed? I can't wait to read it and that's not going to happen until you finish writing it. :)
Lucky sausage? Isn't there some saying about laws and sausages, Ms. Law Lady? :)
Ummm yeah, No stealing them!
