Awwooo!

Why did the coyote cross the road?

To scare the bejezus out of me yesterday as we were driving home from Bend. I've heard them at night, yowling mournfully in the distance, but yesterday I saw one, up close and almost too personal. Close encounters of the bumper kind, almost.

Yesterday I bought a new camera, a little Nikon Coolpix L1 with 5X optical zoom and 6 megapixels, in hopes that I can get better pictures of the nuthatches, Oregon juncos, squirrels and other critters that have come calling. So today, of course, not a one showed itself.

Maybe tomorrow.

Figure out what they like to eat and scatter it outside your windows. You'll get lots of critters for photos (or dinner if you feel like being adventuresome). :)

WOW- I bought the same camera YESTERDAY!! How funny. It's small, but it's a great camera! I have been tuning into your blog :) I write in mine every couple of days :) Hope you are having a good day! Hugs! Dana

I do that, Melissa. I've got suet and seed, and usually get visitors all day long. It's just the day I wanted to take pictures, they were all being shy.

Thanks, Dana! I've been following yours, too. Funny we got the same camera. I like small cameras. The L1 is not quite as small as my Elph, and doesn't have the auto-rotate feature, but otherwise I like it much better. Please say Hi to Lisa for me. I had no idea she works with you! :)

I've seen that camera advertised for $249.99. Is that a good price, or should I keep looking?

Also, is the camera Melissa friendly? (i.e., idiot proof?)

That's a good price for a retail store. I've seen it cheaper on eBay, but then you have to pay shipping and worry you won't be ripped off. I got mine at a local retail store.

No camera is what my dad would call "sailor-proof", but I found the Coolpix to be easier to use than my Canon Elph. The elph used icons a lot, and I wasn't always sure what the icons meant, but the Coolpix has text explaining each icon. It takes AA batteries instead of a proprietary battery, and a standard USB cable instead of a proprietary one.

It's easier than running an IV. :)
