Owliver

Last weekend we went to a bookstore in Sunriver (a resort town south of Bend). The first thing I liked about the bookstore was the dragon statues they had. The next thing I noticed is that they were playing Caravan by Duke Ellington, a favorite of mine. And they had a great mystery section.

I picked up a book that reminded me of Carl Hiaasen, and a salesperson started chatting with me about books. I'm guessing she and her husband are the owners. She was passionate about books, very knowledgeable and very friendly. When she found out I liked John D. McDonald, she recommended another author who wrote like him. I wish more salespeople were like this! No pressure, just professional, proficient and passionate.

They sold animal statuettes that were candleholders, with colored stones for the eyes that let the candlelight shine through the eyes. I love those. Pictured is the owl I purchased. Whenever we walk into the bedroom the light from the snow makes the eyes glow.

His name is Owliver.

Does his friend, the blue suncatcher, have a name also? :)

The place is Sunriver Books and Music. They don't have a website! How can this be? I'll have to talk to them about that. ;)

I might have nicknamed him Laurence.

His full given name would have been Sir Laurence Owlivier.

LOL!

I'm used to it. It's not the first time Candace has bested me. :)

Besides, anything to make a post more interesting. Sometimes I even bore myself! ;)

Dave certainly helps keep my mind and my wit sharp, Michelle. He keeps me on my toes.

I'm hoping that these mental exercises will pay off somewhere down the line. Who knows they might even help prevent Alzheimer's?

BTW, Dave, how do you know it's a male owl?

If you discover that he's a she, my first suggestion is Owlivia Newton-John.

Connie complained that the owl was "always looking at her."

So I'm pretty sure it's male... and that I may have to kick its ass. :)
