Hardy's Hot Wings
The other night we ate at Hardy's Hot Wings and Hamburgers, a fast food place in Bend. We walked in and were instantly greeted by a slender young brunette with blue eyes and an ear pierced high from which dangled what looked like a zipper pull. She welcomed us, asked if we were having a good night and helped us decide what to have, this being our first time and all.
She easily and enthusiastically recited pretty much the entire menu. At my inquiry she admitted that she'd worked there for three months, but that she could recite all the prices too. Impressive!
Connie chose fish with fried zucchini, and I had chicken wings with bbq sauce. mmm, BBQ. Stefanie, our lovely hostess, stopped by our table a few times to see how the meal was and if she could get us anything. The food was very good, which she was pleased to hear.
The work ethic in America is not dead! Stefanie was cheerful, helpful and obviously doing her best. What more can you ask from someone? If only we could populate post offices with Stefanies.

Stephanie is new at her job. Give her time and she probably won't be so eager to please anymore. It's hard to keep up that kind of trying so hard behavior indefinitely. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I agree that it's easy to burn out by trying too hard for too long. But if you work at it in the beginning, you get comfortable and experienced and it becomes second nature. Then it's a matter of staying cheerful and helpful, and I've met more than a few people who are able to maintain that. It depends on their attitude and the work environment.
Some work cultures grind you down, and some cultures fire you up. I much prefer the latter. :)
The DMV could use a few Stephanies.
I like the coca-cola wings... sweet and a little tangy. Yummmm!
DMV for sure!
I'll have to try the Coca-Cola wings. So many sauces, so little time! ;)
That guy "alan" looks just like Grenewetzki!
Which reminds me...
It's been a long, long time, since I had such an orgasmic meal at a restaurant that all I could say between bites was "Yes! Yes! Yes!"
On a scale of one to five stars, it was a ten.
The name of the place is The Bonefish Grill. We dined at the one in Henderson, Nevada, but they have restaurants all across the country.
I had grouper, which was encrusted in crushed macadamia nuts, grilled to a moist, flaky texture and served with a pineapple-rum sauce.
Man! Oh, man! Eat your heart out Meg Ryan!
My Mom had the pistachio parmesan crusted rainbow trout, which was sautéed and topped with artichokes and a basil lemon butter.
The waiter was phenomenal. Great sense of humor. He not only knew each item on the menu; he was also able to answer a couple of tricky questions on my part. He also put up with my candid sense of humor, which ain't always easy.
Mike, Alan does look like Greno! At least, with his hat off he does. With his hat on he reminds me more of Pat McCarthy. And to top it off, Alan's a programmer. We must have known him in another life. :) (Pat and Greno are former co-workers of mine.)
Thanks, Candace. I'll keep my eye out for one. The closest Bonefish Grill seems to be in Washington.
Oh No! My cover's been blown.
Love, Greno
I went to the Bonefish Grill in Destin, FL!! Is that the same chain? It was soooo delicious.
