Property Taxes Due

Our property taxes are due today. If we pay later, we have to pay extra. The bill mentioned that some post offices don't postmark mail right there. So I drove to our local post office and asked them. Sure enough, our little post office forwards the mail to Bend and it gets postmarked there, meaning it might not be postmarked until another day. But the clerk postmarked it for me on the spot so I wouldn't have to pay more.

A month or so ago our phone company called and said my check never arrived, so I paid them by credit card. Yesterday I got a notice from the post office that they were unable to deliver the check I'd sent. They were also unable to return the letter. All they provided was a copy of the check. I asked our clerk about it, and he thinks it must have been mangled so badly in one of their machines that all that was left was the check.
