Dumbdoing

If people can be guilty of wrongdoing, why can't they also be guilty of dumbdoing? I'm just asking...

The Bad Analysis blog has an interesting listing of the 10 reasons people make stupid mistakes. It explains the following ten common blunders:

1. Sunk cost bias
2. Egocentric bias
3. Confirmation bias
4. Overconfidence
5. Dysfunctional competition
6. Endowment effect
7. Availability bias
8. Conformity
9. Illusion of control
10. Attribution error

I love lists like this. It helps to understand the behavior of other people and even yourself. You can take any one of these blunders and make it a plot point in a storyline. Sitcom plots seem to be built on either blunders or lies. So are politics.
