10 Mistakes in a Conversation explains these ten common mistakes made in a conversation:
1. Not listening
2. Asking too many questions
3. Tightening up
4. Poor delivery
5. Hogging the spotlight
6. Having to be right
7. Talking about a weird or negative topic
8. Being boring
9. Not reciprocating
10. Not contributing much
Good conversation is the key to, uh, something, I'm sure.

Oh my god, I'm guilty of about 6 of those things. Well, I guess there's good reason why no one has ever called me a good conversationalist.
I think #2 and #7 are my worst transgressions (with regard to this list). :)
#2 and #7 are my worst transgressions as well. Who made up this list? Maybe it was created by someone with a lack of natural curiosity and lack of interest in unconventional matters.
Why do you want to know who made it up? Are you going to do something to them? What are you going to do to them? ;)
Ugh...guilty, guilty, guilty...
I talk WAY too much. I should print these out, laminate the list, stick copies everywhere and force myself to read it before I decide to open my mouth.
I must be guilty of #3 or #4 or #8, because I rarely have a problem with being guilty of #5.
Only Rusty, close friends and family get a glimpse of me engaging in #6 (when I am absolutely dead certain of the few facts that I have, damn it!).
I'm definitely guilty of #9 and #10 when I'm bored, disinterested or simply not in a sociable mood.
I used to have a big problem with #1, because I was too busy thinking of what I wanted to say next. Sometimes, I still have that problem.
Since I am a kinda kooky individual with a mood disorder to boot, #7 is a natch. Thankfully, negative topics are not much of a problem these days (at least, that's what the voices tell me).
And, since I'm only 4-years-old at heart, #2 can be a big problem if I don't rein my enthusiasm in.
#11 is definitely missing, which is not knowing when to remain silent at all costs AKA not sticking your foot in your mouth.
