High Desert Museum

The docent said the two river otters usually avoided each other. While one plays, the other sleeps. When we were visiting last week, they were definitely not avoiding each other. River otters are often playful, but it was a blast watching them frolic together in the snow. The docent had never seen them do that before.

We like taking visitors to the High Desert Museum. Great gift shop, great cafeteria and of course, wonderful critters. All of the flora and fauna there are or were native to Central Oregon, which makes us wonder which ones we'll find in our backyard. This Canadian Lynx, named "Snowshoe", was a ham for the camera. Here, kitty, kitty!

For some reason, the desert museum was nearly deserted when we were there. I suppose the fact that it was the middle of the week and snowing might account for it. Nonetheless, the docents were more than happy to answer our questions and do their presentations. The staff there are wonderful. We bought the annual pass, and we haven't regretted it.
