Tumalo Creek

One of our adventures with guests recently was to Tumalo Creek, about ten miles west of Bend. Even the drive there is beautiful. We parked at the little lot just across the creek. The trail to Tumalo Falls is about two and a half miles from the little lot, down a road that's closed in winter. In the winter it makes a nice place to hike and ski cross-country. It was here that we encountered all the XC skiers with dogs.

We didn't plan on roughing it, so we weren't wearing full snow gear. For instance, I was still in tennis shoes. The snow was packed hard, so that wasn't a problem, as long as we stayed on the road. Off the road it was deeper and softer. We'd driven ten miles to get here, and there were no rest rooms. One of us (not me!), someone with a small bladder, had a call to answer and didn't want to go off-road. If you know what I mean. What would you do?

What would you do?

I would write my name in the middle of the road.

Watch out where the huskies go,
And don't you eat that yellow snow!

I have a trick for that....for women who can't write their name in the snow...

Open the passenger side door and if a four door car, open the back door on the same side. Now girls, you have privacy on at least three sides and if you're with a friend have them stand in front of you facing out. Privacy on four sides. Now, you can pull the pants down and just sit the very back of your rear on the door jamb. You can actually, almost sit down while you go on the ground. I learned this in Europe and it's served me well. There was the one time I had a little too much to drink and after I "went" I suddenly realized there was no puddle beneath the car. Yep, you guessed it. Sadly I missed, had sat too far back on the door jamb and had peed in the car. Fortunately my wonderful husband has a great sense of humor!

LOL Good to know, Terri. In our case, we were walking up the road with no car. So we were instructed to walk ahead and not look back. :)
