I don't know if I've mentioned it, but for Mother's Day I got Connie a bicycle. Since then we've been bicycling around our neighborhood, and Connie's been building up her biking muscles. We had a hitch installed on the car, and we got a bike rack that fits into the hitch.

Yesterday we drove into Sunriver and took the bikes for a spin on their miles of bike paths. I've heard it's faster and easier to get around Sunriver on the bike paths than it is on the roads. Now I can believe it. It's a bike commuter's paradise.

The path was level almost the entire distance we traveled. We went from the Village Mall to the Deschutes River, past the horse stables in a big loop that made its way back to the mall. The path is beautiful. We were serenaded the entire way by a variety of birds, and bicycling by the river was wonderful. We must have seen over a dozen brightly colored kayaks riding the river. I think the next time Debbie comes we're going to go kayaking and horseback riding.

Anyone know of other beautiful places to bicycle near Bend that don't involve hills or dirt trails?

At one point, we found the Eleanor Roosevelt quote listed above written in chalk on the bike path. You don't see graffiti like that every day!
