They Do

Connie's niece Rona got married last weekend. She and her new husband live in Victorville, California, I believe. I don't know why they chose Las Vegas to get married, maybe because one of her brothers lives there. Doesn't everyone in Southern California go to Vegas to wed?

The wedding was held in the Canterbury Chapel at the Excalibur. (Again, I know not why. I wasn't privy to these things.) While I find the Excalibur a little cheesy in general, I thought the little chapel was beautiful, and the wedding went smoothly. Connie cried, as she does at weddings. We're very fond of Rona, who has always been a happy, lovely and effervescent girl. She was a beautiful bride.

The photographer requested that nobody take flash photos during the ceremony, so the photos you see here were taken using existing light with my Lumix TZ3 camera.

The reception was held at the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Caesar's Palace, and the food was surprisingly good. We flew Debbie and her boyfriend to Vegas for the wedding, and I got to see Debbie dance at the reception. She's a good dancer! Funny the things a parent sometimes doesn't get to see. I hadn't seen Debbie dance in many a year.

For the record, Connie and I were also wed in Vegas, but that was decades ago.

Update: Connie corrected me. It was Planet Hollywood, not the Hard Rock. (Is there a difference?) So nice to have a Backup Brain (tm).

That is a pretty chapel. So, why did you and Connie go to Vegas to get married? I just got married in my parent's back yard.

We eloped, to avoid the problems of having two sets of parents, all divorced from each other, in the same place at the same time. Las Vegas was quick, cheap, and no blood tests!

Were your families upset that they missed the wedding or glad that they didn't all have to be in the same spot at the same time?

My mother kvetched about it, but the rest seemed to understand the situation. My dad held a reception for us after he found out, and gave us money toward a down payment on a house (which beats a big wedding in my book any day).
