New Avatar

Before I left Seattle to return home, I stopped by the famous Pike Place Market, a Seattle landmark. I stopped by Lark in the Morning, one of my favorite music stores. It wasn't until recently that I discovered that the music stores I enjoy most in Seattle, Ghirardelli Square and in Mendocino are all the same store. They have exotic instruments from around the world, and they encourage you to play them.

I also walked down a ramp hoping to find the same artist who did my caricature over a decade ago. That's it at the top of this post. Sure enough, there he was. Nick has been doing caricatures in that same spot for 35 years. I've used that first one as my avatar on probably a dozen online services.

Here's the one he did for me Monday:

While I really like the caricature, the new one is awesome. You look so mysterious, Dave!

Having met you in person, I think the original avatar is dead on.

The new one actually appears to be Truman Capote.

I think that the first avatar captured you better. The second one, though nice, could be almost anyone in sunglasses and fedora.

I'm tempted to get one for me while in Seattle, but I'm afraid that it would just show a white-haired old lady.
