I'm with the Band
Tonight our band played in public for the first time. At tonight's bellydance showcase (pdf) we played for the Raqsafar dance troupe and each of its dancers. Randy Smith played lead doumbek, Becky Smith played harp, Julie Cash sang with us for Misirlu and I played doumbek and riq. We may soon have an oud player as well.
The lovely Keisha Burns was there shooting much of the performance in HD for TV station KTVZ. Keisha is both cameraperson and interviewer. If you didn't blink, you saw me onscreen for about a second on tonight's newscast. Also shown were local belly dancers Bali Ram and the awesome Zweena.
I'll post some photos (and maybe video) next week. Pictured here is the new Raven Kings troupe during a captivating performance that included handheld lights.
We're still trying to come up with a name for our band. Bulletins as they break.

Drum Rats! LOL I like it. I'll that to our list, although I'm trying to avoid drum/rhythm-specific names since we do have melody in the mix. :)
Next time, Soulful.
