French Man Arrested and Sued For Blogging
Blogger Cristophe, who lives in the town of Puteaux near Paris, has been blogging criticisms against his town for quite a while now, and was even arrested for it. Now the city has budgeted a sum of money for the mayor to sue Cristophe for blogging.
Good thing we live here in the United States where the government doesn't use such tactics. *cough*
(By the way, with this post I used Adam Kalsey's Simpletracks Trackback pinger for the first time. You can see this post excerpted at the page I linked to above.)

This is not a challenge, Dave. I'm simply curious because I'm new to blogging. What did you mean to imply by *cough*? Is there something that I should know about the government and blogging?
Only in France..
The British would tell you the same thing. They are strict there in many ways.
First, let me say that I love this country; I'm not one of those people who see conspiracies under every ballot box. I grew up believing that our government was the best one anywhere.
Of late, though, I've been feeling disillusioned as our rights and civil liberties erode before our very eyes. I don't know of any specific acts here against bloggers, but I have taken note of incidents such as the exposure of a CIA agent because her husband had challenged the government's claim of WMDs in Iraq. Or the mass imprisonment of those in the vicinity of last years Republican National Convention, even if they weren't involved in protests.
I think they've crossed the line too often of late and betrayed the American values they're supposed to uphold. I hope that pendulum soon swings back the other way.
What depressing stories. I think that I will now retreat to my cave, have a glass of wine in the garden and try to only read blogs concerning cats for awhile. The rest of the world doesn't have to exist for me if I don't want it to.
Sorry. It depresses me, too.
Solipsists of the world, unite!
Ahh yes, the "Land Down Under", where even the govt ministers blog about what crappy policies they have!
