Use It and Lose It
I just read about some new biodegradable storage containers such as bowls and cups made out of corn that look just like clear plastic. They break down in 45-60 days after disposal. I think fast food restaurants should be required by law to use these for all their cold products.

Thanks for bringing up this important topic, Dave.
I noticed that Eco-Products also manufactures biodegradable bags, which are corn-based as well. Innovations, such as these, can do so much for our environment.
Just yesterday, Rusty and I were walking Tess along the L.A. River (strange name, since it's mainly concrete by us) when we observed what the rain had washed in from the streets.
Floating in the water were plastic bags, plastic cups, plastic lids and plastic bottles to name a few items.
As divers, we are both keenly aware that all of this debris heads out to sea and into our ocean environment.
Captain Charles Moore of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation gives a great deal of insight into the bigger problem. This feature article, Trashed, is from the November, 2003 edition of Natural History Magazine.

Anytime I can help the environment without painful sacrifice I tend to go for it. We use biodegradable kitty litter (corn based). I use solar power and/or rechargable batteries whenever possible. We recycle paper, glass and aluminum. (That's aluminium, GemmaK. ;)
We love those LED nightlights you gave us, Candace. The colors look great and they hardly drink any juice.
I just got a solar powered watch.
Our power company (a co-op) has a feature where you can pay a little more for your power, and they'll get it from renewable resources. I'm gonna sign up for that, too.
Every little bit helps. ;)
That would be Al-u-min-ium Dave not A-loo-min-um ;)
