Oh, Well

I bought a small waterfall kit and a plastic liner to put in a water garden. I dug a hole about two feet deep in the shape of the liner. I hit water.

The water table seems to be about two feet below ground level right now. You call this a desert?

I've had the poor pond liner sitting in the front yard for days now, waiting for the water level to drop. I've got lava rocks to place around the pond, and I have plants to plant, and soil and mulch, but my hole has water in it. I pump the water out, and it seeps right back in.

Nothing ever goes easy, does it?

I had the same problem when I built my pond. I had to pump the water out of the hole everyday before digging and it was still an unbelievable mess. I wanted to go deeper, but the water stopped me.

Do you have a well? If I owned the water rights, I would put one in. It's nice to know that if there's a major disaster, I can dig for water with a shovel.

Yeah, the water table is really shallow down your way. I've heard there's areas where it's mere inches from the surface.

That would be my back yard. It's inches above the surface.

I don't have a well, but I'm thinking about it (and thinking about the toothless CC&Rs that prevent me from having one).
