Fade to Black

Bryan Frank has written a post about the demise of the Imperial Theater in Southern California. As always, Bryan writes well and takes great photos. But that's not why it struck me so deeply.

I grew up two blocks from that theater. My first trip to a movie theater was to the Imperial. The first time I saw a movie without my parents was at that theater (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).

I can't help but think of the song My City Was Gone by the Pretenders, and her home that had been paved down the middle. Only now, it's my childhood being paved down the middle.

The future has always been more interesting to me than the past, but that hurts. They didn't even ask my permission!

Update: Fixed song name, added link. Thanks, Candace!
