RIP, Uncle David
Sixty-one years ago today, my uncle, David Singerman, perished with many of his crewmates after his ship, the U.S.S. Indianapolis, was sunk by a Japanese submarine.
Recently, I emailed the American Battle Monuments Commission to request a photograph of my uncle's tombstone, or of his name as it's inscribed on the wall at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Phillipines. I quickly (!) heard back from them, promising me a free "photo of the section of the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery where his name appears" and a picture of the memorial, along with additional information. I'll post them when they arrive.
Still thinking about you, Uncle David. Wish I'd had a chance to meet you.
