Nothing Up My Sleeve...

Definitely NSFW!

In the following video, a magician repeatedly vanishes a red silk handkerchief. To dispel any suspicion regarding its whereabouts, she also removes, one by one, every article of clothing she's wearing until she is completely nude, sans shoes.

In my personal opinion, she does altogether too much hand jiggling accompanying each silk vanish. The trick doesn't require it. In fact, I've done that trick many a time, and I daresay I do it a lot better and a lot more smoothly. But when I do it, it's not nearly so entertaining. It's not fair!

Sounds like you need to step it up a notch, mister.

What did you have in mind, Lisa? :)

Surprising, isn't it, Melissa? LOL

Je ne sais pas, Candace. It was a link on Digg or BoingBoing or haha.nu or one of the other similar blogs I frequent. I forgot to note it. I must have been distracted. ;)

I'm married to a professional magician who has done sleight of hand for over 30 years (actually he was one of the top 10 sleight of hand artists in the country) and he says it's actually a very poor rendition of the "old thumb tip routine." She (and anyone else who shoves a scarf into their fist) has a plastic fake thumb tip. If you notice in the very beginning she hides her thumbs behind the scarf - the first telltale sign.

You can buy the trick at any magic store. Of course you can't buy that body at a magic store - well, at least not the magic stores I've been in!

Hi, Terri! Hope you're doing well.

I agree with your hubby. Did you mention my comments to him? You should be able to perform this slowly and smoothly, which makes it more mysterious how the silk vanishes, and keeps from attracting attention to the hands.

I prefer to do tricks that don't require gaffs, props or gimmicks, but thumb tips are so handy and mystifying I always have one in my pocket. That, and the rope, rings and coins I keep on hand are all I need to amuse myself. :)

When I used to go to Joe Berg's magic store on Hollywood Blvd, I used to see bodies like that for sale out on the street all the time. ;)
