SpeedTest
Wanna know how fast your internet connection currently is? I don't know how accurate it is, but SpeedTest is certainly an easy to use, great looking application that gives you upload and download speeds. I like it.

3619 kbps down and 477 up. What did you get?
Oh, and that was to London from Omaha.
1295 kbps down and 768 up for me on a server in Washington state, which sound about right for my DSL.
You've got 3619 down? I'm jealous! :)
Well, that was even a slow measurement, compared to some others. But my up-speed is not as good as yours.
I'm 1284 down and 296 up. What's up with that? I'm paying good money for speed. I think I'm being cheated.
Try this one too: Speakeasy Speed Test.
Find the server closest to you, and try to keep all your other applications from accessing servers (if you're doing other downloads or uploads at the same time, the speedtest can't go as fast). If you're still not getting the rates you should be, call your ISP and complain. :)
If you're using a cable modem instead of DSL, then you're sharing the cable with other people in your neighborhood, which can also slow you down, and your speeds will vary depending on the time of day. Slower when others are likely to be using the net (after 5pm) and faster in the wee hours when they should be sleeping.
